What is asthma?
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition in which the airways of the lungs become inflamed, narrowed, and overly sensitive, making it difficult for a person to breathe freely. During an asthma episode, the muscles around the airways tighten, the lining of the air passages swell, and excess mucus is produced, leading to breathing difficulty.

Symptoms
In Ayurveda, asthma is referred to as “Tamaka Shwasa,” a condition caused due to imbalance of Vata and Kapha doshas along with low digestive fire (Agni). According to Ayurvedic science, the stability of breath depends on the harmonious functioning of Vata, while Kapha governs mucus and lubrication in the respiratory passages.
